In March 2007, the Greensboro Housing Authority established a community based permanent and supportive housing service program for homeless individuals and families with special needs. The Supportive Housing Program utilizes both the Housing First and Rapid Re-Housing approach to move eligible participants into housing to live independently in a safe environment, while benefiting from the availability of support services. The program is designed to foster stability and self-sufficiency through housing coordination and case management services.
Target Population
In order to qualify for the Supportive Housing program you must be an individual experiencing homelessness and have one or more disabilities.
Conditions of Homelessness
• An individual or family moving from place to place
• An individual or family sleeping in emergency shelters or on the floor of the apartment of friends or relatives.
• An individual or family sleeping in places not suited for human habitation (such as cars, parks, sidewalks, bridge underpasses, and abandoned buildings).
Conditions of Disability
• Serious Mental Illness
• Chronic Substance Abuser
• HIV/AIDS and related diseases
• Disabled Veteran
• Developmental disability
• Physical disability
Refferal proccess
In order to qualify for the program the client must be referred from an Agency that is part of the Homeless Prevention Coalition of Guilford County, walk-ins will not be accepted. This program is for people who are experiencing homeless and are disabled as defined by HUD. Disability has to be verified by a Physician or Medical personnel.
