As providers it is important that we continue to strive towards strengthening our current system of care through working towards the issue of ending chronic homelessness and reducing all other types of homelessness. It is imperative that the social service community cooperate to share information on organizational activities, to leverage support and resources, and to develop comprehensive strategies that serves the needs of Guilford County.

Direct Service Providers Network

In February 2009, the Continuum of Care Supportive Services and Housing Action Team launched the Direct Service Providers Network in order to increase frontline staff’s ability to access resources in a more efficient manor, expand awareness and access of services available in Guilford County, and to create an ongoing resource network of direct service providers.

The action team has created a comprehensive Resource Guide with information available to you to help assist your clients throughout Guilford County regarding housing, meals, medical care, furniture, job training, etc. If you are interested in learning more, click here.

Quarterly Direct Service Provider Meetings

On Friday May 8, 2009, the Continuum of Care Action Team held our second quarterly direct service providers meeting at the Jamestown Town Hall. The purpose of this event was to help frontline staff gain a better understanding of Guilford County’s Funding Landscape. The event focused on the role frontline staff play in the vital relationship between service provision and program funding. The presentation was facilitated by Tara Sandercock, Steve Sumerford, and Desha Dickson who created a graphic representation of Guilford County’s Funding Landscape. Attendees participated in a Jeopardy Icebreaker designed to improve access and increase awareness of the various services available throughout Guilford County.

On February 10, 2009, the Continuum of Care Action Team held a meeting at the Jamestown Town Hall for direct service providers called Meeting the Challenge in Guilford County: Empowering Frontline Staff. The purpose of this event was to provide direct service providers an opportunity to network with their peers, and to improve access and increase awareness of the various services available throughout Guilford County

Attendees were asked to share what was unique about their agencies, give a brief synopsis of the services they provide, little known criteria that would make accessing services easier and how to best access those services. Many great ideas were shared during the roundtable discussions.
