Clothing Bank - Greensboro Urban Ministry - GUM operates a clothing bank for individuals with low or no income.

Salvation Army Center of Hope - CLOTHING ASSISTANCE - (Guilford CAN) -  Clothing is also given to clients who qualify (must first be interviewed by a Salvation Army Social Worker). Clothing and furnishings to fire victims require fire report.

Emergency Assistance Program - Greensboro Urban Ministry – Helps prevent eviction and utility disconnection; provides food assistance; assists persons who cannot afford to purchase clothing and household goods. Because financial resources are limited, Emergency Assistance will help only in cases where there is a reasonable expectation that the situation will not be ongoing. Provides situational planning, information, and referrals. To receive any type of assistance: demonstrated need based on verification of income and expenses of prior 3 months. Referral from DSS a local social service agency of local congregation. Must have photo ID or birth certificate. Must have Social Security cards for all household members, a lease or mortgage verification, proof of Guilford County residency. Must have already called 271-5959,ext. 340 to discuss request for assistance.

Mary’s House - Mary's House provides transitional housing to women in recovery from substance abuse and their minor children. In 2006, they began to provide emergency assistance to needy families to help prevent homelessness. They have a grant from the City of Greensboro and FEMA to help families with past due rent, utilities and deposits to help secure a first time residence.

The Servant Center - Food Pantry / Grocery Assistance Program - The Servant Center offers a Grocery Assistance Program (GAP) to help for members of our community who are having difficulty affording food. GAP offers two alternatives for clients to receive assistance:
  1. Food Pantry – clients with transportation come on-site to pick up groceries.

  2. Delivery Program – volunteer drivers deliver a bag of groceries to shut-in clients once a month.

GAP serves over one hundred families a week who are: low-income elderly and/or disabled or in a short-term emergency situation. Groceries bags are filled by volunteers with food donated from the community. There is no charge for either the Food Pantry or the Delivery Program. To participate in the program, a client must have a referral from a social service agency, church, school or government agency.Referrals can be made by completing the referral application, available online or upon request, and submitting it directly to the Food Pantry or you can print the form then fax it at (336) 370-1540.

 

The Barnabas Network - Guilford CAN Provides furniture to families in need.

Eligibility: Participants must have referral from a partner in faith community or agency. Agency or congregation must pay a $25 referral fee per participant. Participant must have photo ID. When shopping, participant must bring truck for transport of furniture. No children allowed in facility.
Shopping is done by appointment only. The referring agency must have a long-term relationship with the participant or conduct a home visit prior to the referral. Once referral is received, Barnabas staff will call the family to schedule an appointment. Eligible participants may receive furniture once in a lifetime.

Prescription Drug Discount Card - NACo - FREE prescription drug discount card for residents of Guilford County. Offered in conjunction with the National Association of Counties (NACo) program. There are no enrollment or membership fees, no age or income requirements and the card may be used immediately. An entire family is covered by one card and the card can be used each time a prescription is NOT covered by insurance or Medicaid. Although this program is primarily designed for uninsured and underinsured people, anyone can use the card to help save money on prescription drugs that are NOT covered by insurance; the card can even be used for pet medications. DayWatch –is a street outreach to homeless people in Greensboro, NC. Time spent talking, praying and feeding a hot meal to our friends also includes the distribution of snack bags and hygiene kits. On occasion we have also had hair stylists to provide haircuts.

Hope Outreach Center Inc. – is an evangelical “helps” outreach that goes out into the High Point homeless community wherever that might be to feed, encourage and provide some practical support to those in need. Hope Outreach also provides limited housing and employment services to the homeless population.

Nightwatch Greensboro - NightWatch is an evangelical street outreach ministry to the homeless in Greensboro. On Friday nights, the NightWatch team visits homeless people where they are — on the street, in the woods, under bridges. NightWatch distributes hot food, snack bags, blankets, hygiene kits and other items necessary to help meet the immediate physical needs of unsheltered homeless people.
