A Housing First approach to homelessness differs from the traditional shelter-based response of homelessness by focusing on the root causes of homelessness rather than a reactionary response. A Housing First approach attempts to prevent homelessness when possible and to provide permanent supportive housing to those who are homeless. This approach is housing-based with an immediate and primary focus on helping individuals quickly access and sustain permanent housing.
Guilford County’s Housing First Programs
The success of the Housing First programs is due to successful collaboration across the Guilford County. We would like to especially recognize our partners who provide housing assistance which allows our client's to have a place to call home. The partners, that we could not do this without include the City of High Point's Community Development and Housing Department, the Greensboro Housing Authority, the City of Greensboro Housing and Community Development, and the NC Department of Health & Human Services (Key Tax Credits).
