Eviction Prevention Initiative offers short-term family support services that include landlord advocacy, and support services that provide financial counseling and emphasize housing sustainability.

The Model
Eviction Prevention is a set of strategies to help families maintain housing stability and avoid eviction. It typically involves:
• financial budgeting and saving classes
• credit card debt counseling
• fair housing and rental education
• short-term rental assistance
• case management services
• advocacy

Target Population
• Low-income individuals and families living in Guilford County who are experiencing the possible loss of permanent housing due to late rental payments or other difficulties that may have put housing at risk.

Portals of Entry
• Families identified and referred by Property Managers because of consistent late payments and opting to pay the late fees.
• Families identified and referred by the local emergency assistance network.

Consumer Credit Counseling Overview
CCCS of Greater Greensboro is a division of Family Service of the Piedmont whose goal is to assist families and individuals resolve financial problems by avoiding bankruptcy through budget counseling, credit counseling, housing counseling, and debt solver programs. Through these efforts they can help consumers to achieve their financial goals and regain a sense of financial well being. Services offered through CCCS include:
• Professional Advice
• Budget Counseling
• Credit Counseling
• Housing Counseling and Education
• Debt Solver Program
• Workshops: Budgeting Your Money & Maintaining Your Credit

VITA Program Overview
The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program is offered to local residents with household incomes less than $40,000. VITA provides free tax preparation for lower to moderate income individuals in the Guilford county area and encourages eligible taxpayers to take advantage of helpful tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC). By providing free income tax assistance, VITA also eliminates the need for lower income families to use paid tax preparers or incur expenses for “rapid refunds.”

High Point Emergency Assistance Network Overview (Lead Partner: Open Door Ministries)
The purpose of the Emergency Assistance Network is to improve coordination of available resources in our community so that the needs of individuals and families can be met in an effective and efficient manner. Their objectives are to identify community resources and encourage collaboration; to connect identified community resources with persons in need; to identify and solicit additional resources; and to develop relationships with individuals seeking emergency assistance.

Housing Opportunities & Education Initiative (Family Service of the Piedmont, Legal Aid of North Carolina, Greensboro Housing Coalition, & City of High Point Housing Coalition)
The purpose of this initiative is to actively focus on ensuring that the Guilford County residents have access to safe, decent and affordable housing and understand how to access resources and secure good housing stock with a minimum of difficulty.
