action teams

The Community Partnership Action Teams are essential to the actualization of Guilford County’s ten year plan. These teams are working toward strengthening Guilford County’s continuum of care. We encourage the participation of members of the faith community, business community, civic groups and the public to work together for change in our community. We currently have several action teams that meet monthly to address several key issues surrounding homelessness and all aspects that lead to homelessness in our community.

Advocacy & Marketing

Purpose: To develop strategies for educating the general public, elected officials, the Faith community, business and civic groups about implementation of the ten year plan and housing first.

Chair: Anne Kimball (The Guilford Center)

Immediate Past Chair: Wes Ward (Westover Church)

Meeting Schedule: 1st Tuesday of every month at 9:00 a.m.

Supportive Housing Goods & Services

Purpose: To support newly housed individuals through the formation of Hope Teams, to work with the community to provide in-kind donations of housing supplies and to strengthen newly housed individuals access to the community.

Chair: Dan Hodgson

Meeting Schedule: 3rd Thursday of every month at 9:00 a.m.

Meeting Location: Board Room, Family Service of the Piedmont, Jamestown


Day Center/Neighborhood Resource Center & Coordinated Portal of Entry System

Purpose: Create a Coordinated Portal of Entry System and establish a day center(s) in High Point and a day center(s) in Greensboro that have linkages to the Central Resource System.

 

Interactive Resource Center (Greensboro Day Center)

Lead Partner Greensboro: IRC Advisory Board (Day Center Task Force)

Chair: Bob Newton (Community Volunteer)

Meeting Schedule: 1st Thursday of every month at 12:00 p.m.

Meeting Location: Shiloh Baptist Church, Greensboro

 

High Point Day Center

Chair: Dan Hodgson (Community Volunteer)

Meeting Schedule: 2nd Monday of every month at 11:00 a.m.

Meeting Location: TBD, High Point


Education & Job Training

Purpose: To create job training and  employment opportunities and increase coordination of services between mainstream job training, employment, and education programs, supportive employment agencies, homeless service agencies, and homeless individuals.

Chair: Gale Murphy (Goodwill Industries) and Gene Brown (Housing Greensboro)

Immediate Past Chair: Rev. Odell Cleveland (Welfare Reform Liaison Project)

Meeting Schedule: 2rd Wednesday of each month at 11:00 a.m.

Meeting Location: Board Room, Family Service of the Piedmont, Jamestown


Continuum of Care

Purpose: To increase awareness, access, and coordination of services within Guilford County’s Continuum of Care.

Partner: Homeless Prevention Coalition of Guilford County (HPCGC)

Chair: Jackie Butler, Alcohol and Drug Services

Vice-Chair: Vivian Armstrong, Guilford County Public Health Department

 

Meeting Schedule: 3rd Wednesday of every month at 9:00 a.m.

Discharge Planning

Purpose: Ensure that every person being discharged from jail, hospitals, mental health care, or foster care has a discharge plan that leads to stable housing and supports a community policy of “zero tolerance” for discharge to homelessness.

Chair: Harvey Lowd (Community Volunteer)

Meeting Schedule: 3rd Tuesday of every month at 10:00 a.m.

Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services
Partner: Mental Health Coalition of Guilford County
Partner: Guilford County Substance Abuse Coalition

Purpose: To enhance mental health and substance abuse services in Guilford County.

Mental Health Coalition of Guilford County

Chair: Blair Benson

Vice Chair: Troy Chisolm

Purpose: The Guilford County Mental Health Coalition represents one voice, promoting

                excellence through advocacy, education, and support of equal access for all people

                to the highest quality mental health care.

Meeting Location: Board Room, Mental Health Association, 330 S Greene St # B1, Greensboro Meeting Schedule: TBD

Guilford County Substance Abuse Coalition

Chair: Frances Browne

Purpose: The Coalition brings together the provider community and Guilford County Residents

                to develop a partnership through advocacy, education, collaboration, and support of

                best practice principles to effectively address substance abuse.

Meeting Location: (Alternating Locations)

Meeting Schedule: Quarterly Membership meetings at Noon
